What kind of a traveler am I ?

I'm one of those that got bit by the travel bug some few years ago, and the bug never seems to wanna let go! Its like an addiction that most people will never understand. How can you explain a normal person that its awesome to sleep together with 10 random travelers in a dormitory, eat street food on a daily basis, refuse to book a flight - because its just so much more fun to sit on a local bus that is about to break down, for about 30 hours? Well, I have one confession to make, I'm stubborn, and for some reason I just have to cross as many boarders as I can on foot! I mean, is there possible anything more awesome then to exit one country and at the same time enter a totally new country within seconds? Its the ultimate experience, you get to see armed and dangerous soldiers, you get cool stamps in your passport, and the whole experience is just so "traditional". You know, its like people used to travel back in the old days.

I just love siting on an old bus for 30 hours instead of flying one of those modern jetplanes

AND lets not forget about all the humid jungles you JUST HAD TO WALK through, or the dangerous and active vulcanos you JUST HAD TO CLIMB. The countless hours you just randomly stroll around in a massive city with no particular aim, because its all about walking the streets to get a "feeling of it all" and observe the everyday life. Or what about all of those hours spent on a cosy cafe, sipping local beer, while figuring out where you wanna go next., its hard to explain a normal person why I would choose to spend my "holiday" stressing around like this, I mean, wouldn't be a lot more comfortable spending my time on a nice hotel on a beach? Well, as the adventurous backpacker you most certainly are, you know the keyword is experiences. We travel because we want to experience whats really out there... We want to "feel it", and that's is why we do what we do. At least, that is why I do - what I do....!

I just HAD TO CLIMB this dangerous and active vulcano in the Philippines without a guide
I just HAD TO RIDE a camel through this desert in between India and Pakistan - this time I hired a guide
Well, I JUST HAD TO drop by Mount Everst as I just happened to be in Tibet
Yup, I JUST HAD TO walk all by myself in a massive jungle in Malaysia for 2 days ( well, I happened to bump into an irish guy that took this pic)

I JUST HAD TO drop by Iraq and walk the streets there, just to get a "feeling" of it. Don't worry, it was in northern Irag - the more stable part...
I JUST HAD TO climb to the top of this alpine mountain in Kyrgyzstan - it was tough!
And I JUST HAD TO hire a truck and a driver for a whole week, driving through the incredible Mongolian steps!

To sum it all up, I guess I'm one of those adventurous travelers that just love to experience everything, and yes, I like to "push it" a little bit - but I'm not one of those extreme travelers that deliberately goes into a warzone, but I would love to be one of those CNN reporters.....you know, that reports from Afghanistan and so on.....

However, I'm also a laid-back traveler, and don't JUST HAVE TO DO everything. I love to just hang out, meet people, enjoy a beer on a local pub, or simply just walk around and reflect over "it all".

Enjoying life in laid-back Laos with a bunch of travelers
Just hanging out in one of the many hostels I been to (Australia)

Enjoying my life on Bali, Indonesia
Some random spanish backpackers I bumped into while traveling India
Talking to this young indonesian boy ( 2005)
Traveling is without a doubt about cooling down and relax. Get a feeling of the place your visiting and the people that lives there. That is when you will see amazing and everyday things like this:

Indian women and a kid in some random indian village
Yup, its just a massive COW walking the streets of India! ( yeah, India is one of those crazy countries..)
Some locals from Nepal are about to put fire on their dead friend....
Local burmese kids following me
Some local muslims from Uzbekistan walking down the street
Traveling is a lot, and I love a mixture of different traveling styles. Just remember that its not about the destination, its about the journey -that is why I love traveling with a local bus or train for about 30 hours. Airplanes are for pussies!

Looking forward to once again hit the road by local transportation!
